Potato Grater

Potato Grater

a machine for pulverizing potatoes to make starch. The grater consists of a heavy cast-iron body with a hinged cover. Inside is the basic pulverizing element, a steel drum that revolves at great speed. Replaceable toothed files made of steel are arranged on the surface of the drum (up to 210 files). A moving wooden or metallic block fits tight alongside the drum, and the potatoes are pulverized between the block and the drum. The bulk matter produced falls through holes in a screen secured on a frame beneath the drum. Currently manufactured potato graters can produce up to 100 tons in 24 hours.
