Rakhimbaev, Abdullo Rakhimbaevich

Born June 1896; died May 7, 1938. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the Communist Party from 1919.

The son of a petty merchant in Khodzhent (present-day Len-inabad, Tadzhik SSR), Rakhimbaev graduated from a school for the training of elementary school teachers in Tashkent in 1917 and began teaching. He took part in the revolutionary movement and was one of the organizers of the Khodzhent Soviet. In 1919 and 1920 he was secretary of the Golodnaia Steppe district committee, chairman of the Khodzhent district committee, and chairman of the Samarkand oblast committee of the Communist Party of Turkestan. In 1920 he became chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Turkestan ASSR, executive secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Turkestan, and a member of the collegium of the People’s Commissariat of Nationalities of the RSFSR. In 1923 and 1924 he was first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Bukhara and second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Turkestan.

From 1925 to 1927, Rakhimbaev audited courses in Marxism at the Communist Academy. From 1928 to 1933 he was chairman of the board of the Central Publishing House of the Peoples of the USSR and member of the collegium and chairman of the Committee on Soviet National Minorities in the People’s Commissariat for Education of the RSFSR. Between 1933 and 1937 he was chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Tadzhik SSR and one of the chairmen of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR. He was a delegate to the Tenth through Fourteenth and to the Seventeenth Congresses of the ACP(B). At the Eleventh and Thirteenth Congresses he was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee, and at the Twelfth Congress, a full member of the Central Control Commission. He was a member of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR for the fifth through seventh convocations. Rakhimbaev was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner.
