Rakhimi, Mukhamedzhan

Born May 3, 1901, in the kishlak (settlement) of Faik, near Bukhara; died Aug. 28, 1968, in Dushanbe. Soviet Tadzhik poet. Member of the CPSU from 1943.

Rakhimi worked as a farm laborer. He helped found the Bukhara People’s Soviet Republic. He came to Dushanbe in 1923 and began publishing in 1924. His collections of verse and narrative poems include Selected Poems (1940), Death for Death, Blood for Blood (1943), Victory (1947), Dilafruz (1950), Bright Path (1952), and Morning of the Word (1963). His chief themes are revolution, V. I. Lenin, and socialist transformation. Ra-khimi also translated works by A. S. Pushkin, N. A. Nekrasov, and I. A. Krylov. He was awarded four orders and several medals.
