Rakhman Nabiev

Born Oct. 5, 1930, at the kishlak (hamlet) of Shaikhburkhan, in what is now Khodzhent Raion, Leninabad Oblast, Tadzhik SSR. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the CPSU since 1960.

The son of a peasant, Nabiev graduated from the Tashkent Institute for Irrigation and the Mechanization of Agriculture in 1954. In 1954 and 1955 and from 1956 to 1958 he was chief engineer at the Isfisor Machine-Tractor Station; he was director of the Khodzhent Maintenance and Repair Station in 1959 and 1960. Nabiev was a member of the staff of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Tadzhik SSR in 1960 and 1961. From 1961 to 1963 and from 1964 to 1971 he was part of the administrative apparatus of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Tadzhikistan.

In 1963 and 1964, Nabiev served in the administrative apparatus of the Middle Asian Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He was minister of agriculture of the Tadzhik SSR from 1971 to 1973. In 1973, Nabiev became chairman of the Council of Ministers, as well as minister of foreign affairs of the Tadzhik SSR. He was made a member of the Central Auditing Commission of the CPSU in 1976.

A deputy to the ninth and tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Nabiev has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, three other orders, and various medals.
