Air Observation, Warning, and Communications Troops

 

(VNOS troops). Air observation, warning, and communications service originated in various armies during World War I (1914-18) and was designated to conduct antiaircraft reconnaissance and issue warnings of the threat of an enemy air attack. In the 1940’s the VNOS service of the USSR armed forces became the VNOS troops, which in turn in the 1950’s became the electronic units.
