Vrbas

 

a river in Yugoslavia, right tributary of the Sava River (Danube Basin). Length, 240 km. Basin area, 5,400 sq km. Its source and a considerable part of the river is in the Dinaric Uplands. The water is especially high in spring and fall. The average discharge in the lower course is 70 cu m per sec. There are small hydroelectric power plants in the Vrbas valley. The cities of Jajce and Banja Luka are on the Vrbas River; there are therapeutic sulfur springs near Banja Luka.
