Vysshaia Shkola

 

a Soviet publishing house in Moscow that issues educational literature for higher, special secondary, and professional-technical institutions of learning.

The Vysshaia Shkola Publishing House was founded in 1939 under the name Sovetskaia Nauka; in 1959 the name was changed to Vysshaia Shkola. In 1963 it was combined with the Russian Higher Learning Publishing House (Rosvuzizdat) and the Professional-Technical Publishing House (Proftekhizdat). Besides textbooks, educational and visual aids, and methodological literature on education, it publishes a number of journals, such as Nauchnye doklady vysshei shkoly, Vestnik vysshei shkoly, Srednee spetsial’noe obrazovanie, and Professional’no-tekhnicheskoe obrazovanie. In 1970 the volume of published materials consisted of 1,016 titles (355.3 million printed signatures); 25.2 million copies were published.
