Toropa
Toropa
a river in Kalinin Oblast, RSFSR, a right tributary of the Zapadnaia Dvina. The Toropa is 174 km long and drains an area of 1,950 sq km. The river rises in the Valdai Hills and flows through a series of nine lakes, which occupy 3.5 percent of the area drained by the river. The Toropa is fed by mixed sources, mainly snow. Its mean flow rate at a distance of 49 km from the mouth is 19.7 cu m per sec. The river freezes in late November or early December, and the ice breaks up in April. The city of Toropets is situated on the Toropa.
