torque test

torque test

A clinical test used to identify a sprain of the coxofemoral joint or ligaments.
Technique
The patient lies supine and close to the edge of the examination table so that the involved leg can abduct over the edge. The examiner passively extends the involved hip with a hand, supporting the leg at the ankle, until the pelvis begins to rotate anteriorly; he or she medially rotates the hip to the extreme range of motion and then places a posterolateral force at the hip joint to try to distract it.
Positive test
Groin or lateral hip pain implies a sprain of the coxofemoral joint capsule or supporting ligaments.
