December; the week after ChristmasA Polish peasant festival observed in the week following Christmas, Turon may be a remnant of an ancient festival in honor of the winter god Radegast. Turon is a Polish word for "bull" or "ox." People wear several different animal disguises as they go from house to house singing carols and receiving food and drink from their neighbors in return. Other traditional costumes worn in the celebration represent a wolf, a bear, and a goat. The original turon symbolized frost, consuming vegetation with its huge mouth.
