subliminal persuasion

subliminal persuasion

A self-help philosophy intended to increase the awareness of subliminal (i.e., below the level of consciousness) auditory and visual stimuli, and use them for behaviour modification and as a therapy. Stimuli in the normal environment include white noise in the form of birds singing, traffic, pounding surf, rustling trees and conversation in a crowded room. In subliminal persuasion, positive messages can be dubbed into white noise as a means of deeply penetrating a person’s subconscious, which may be successful in addiction (alcohol, drug, tobacco) disorders, pain relief and stress management.
Outside of healthcare, subliminal messages have been used in businesses to reduce shoplifting and in cinemas to increase the sales of snack foods
