(thrŏm″bō-ĕ-rĭth′rō-sīt) [″ + ″] A synthetic blood product consisting of red blood cells to whose surface a peptide with the following amino acid sequence (arginine-glycine-aspartic acid) has been covalently bonded. Such cells aggregate with activated platelets and may be used as platelet substitutes in patients with severe platelet deficiencies.
