Tagaya, Shinnen

 

Born Jan. 5, 1920, in Kure. Japanese political figure.

After graduating from the law school of Waseda University in 1943, Tagaya went to work for the Nittetsu Kogyo Company (Japan Steel). In the postwar years he served as general secretary of the labor union of the company’s workers and then became an official in the prefectural and national leadership of the union of coal workers. From 1964 to 1966 and again in 1969 and 1970, Tagaya was a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Socialist Party of Japan. He became general secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Socialist Party of Japan in December 1977. Tagaya was first elected to the House of Representatives in the Diet in 1952.
