Seletyteniz
Seletyteniz
a closed bitter lake in the eastern part of Kokchetav Oblast and partly along the border of Pavlodar Ob-last, Kazakh SSR. It covers an area of 777 sq km (the area is extremely variable) and has depths ranging to 3.2 m. The lake is situated at the bottom of a vast depression at an elevation of 64 m. The eastern and northern shores are high and regular; the western shore is indented. In the west and south, the low-lying shores gradually give way to salty swamps. Lake Seletyteniz is fed by snow. Hydrogen sulfide is emitted from the bottom deposits. The Selety River disappears in the swamps of the south shore; the river reaches the lake during high water.
