Seleznev, Petr Ianuarevich

Born Jan. 28, 1897, in the village of Timashovo, now in Kuibyshev Raion, Kuibyshev Oblast; died Mar. 7, 1949, in Moscow. An organizer and leader of the partisan movement in Krasnodar Krai during the Great Patriotic War. Member of the Communist Party from 1915. Son of an office worker.

Seleznev engaged in revolutionary work in Samara (Kuibyshev) and in 1917 became a member of the presidium and secretary of the Vol’sk soviet. After the October Revolution of 1917, Seleznev was involved in economic, military-political, and managerial work in the party. He was first Secretary of the Krasnodar Krai Committee of the ACP(B) from 1939 to 1949 and a member of the Military Council of the Northern Caucasus Front and chief of the Southern and Krasnodar Krai staffs of the partisan movement in 1942–43.

Seleznev was a delegate to the Eighteenth Party Congress in 1939. He was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee and was a deputy to the first and second convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Patriotic War First Class, and various medals. Seleznev is buried in Krasnodar.
