Rampton, Calvin Lewellyn

(1913– ) governor; born in Bountiful, Utah. A Bronze Star veteran of World War II, he practiced law in Salt Lake City, (1946–64), serving as assistant attorney general (1946–48). As Democratic governor of Utah (1965–77), he promoted business and tourism, reduced state debt, and enforced the Fair Employment Practice Act. Declining a fourth term, he returned to his law practice.
