Tersakkan

Tersakkan

 

a river in the Kazakh SSR; a left tributary of the Ishim River (Irtysh River basin). The Tersakkan is 334 km long and drains an area of 19,500 sq km. It rises in and flows through the western part of the Kazakh Melkosopochnik. It is fed mainly by snow. The high water period, which occurs in spring, accounts for more than 90 percent of the annual discharge. The mean flow rate is about 2.5 cu m per sec, and the maximum flow, 52.7 cu m per sec. The Tersakkan freezes in November and opens up in mid-April. In the upper reaches it dries up, and in some winters it freezes down to the bottom.
