Tersk Horse

(Terek horse), a breed of saddle horse. The Tersk horse was developed on the Terek and Stavropol’ horse farms of Stavropol’ Krai by crossbreeding, mainly of strelets Arab and Arabian horses. Tersk horses are larger than Arabians but otherwise resemble them closely. The breed has three main varieties: oriental (largely of Arabian stock), principal, and massive. A Tersk stallion typically measures 154 cm in height at the withers. The oblique length of the body is 154 cm, the chest circumference, 178 cm, and the girth of the front cannon bone, 19.4 cm. The predominant color is gray. The horses are usually ridden with a saddle. The best racing times are 1:21.2 for 1,200 m, 2:38.8 for 2,400 m, and 3:38 for 3,200 m. The breed is raised in Stavropol’ and Krasnodar krais and in the Kabarda-Balkar ASSR, Dagestan ASSR, Severnaia Osetiia ASSR, Georgian SSR, Armenian SSR, and Azerbaijan SSR.
