Terter

 

a river in the Azerbaijan SSR; a right tributary of the Kura River. The Terter measures 184 km in length and drains an area of 2,650 sq km. It originates in the Karabakh Upland, and its lower course is in the Kura-Araks Lowland, where it is intersected by the Verkhnii Karabakh Canal. The river is fed mainly by subterranean waters. High water is from April to July. The mean flow rate 58 km from the mouth is 22.9 cu m per sec. The river is used for irrigation.

The Madagiz and Terter hydroelectric power plants are situated on the Terter. The cities of Mir-Bashir and Barda are located on the river, and the Istisu health resort is situated on the upper course.
