Terterian, Arsen Arutiunovich
Born Dec. 22, 1882, in Shusha, Nagornyi Karabakh; died Oct. 6, 1953, in Yerevan. Soviet Armenian literary scholar. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR (1943). Honored Scientist (1940).
Terterian studied at the St. Petersburg Psychoneurological Institute from 1907 to 1909. In 1920 he became an instructor and in 1930 a professor at the University of Yerevan. He began to publish in 1905. Terterian’s books include Mikael Nalbandian (1910), The Works of Nar-Dos (1913), The Works of Abovian (1941), The Armenian Classics (1944), Valerii Briusov and Armenian Culture (1944), and Encyclopedia of the Literary Characters of Shirvanzade (published 1959).
