Tagul

 

(in its upper course, Malyi Tagul), a river in Irkutsk Oblast, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Biriusa River of the Yenisei River basin. The Tagul measures 300 km in length and drains an area of 7,990 sq km. It originates on the northern slope of the Vostochnyi Saian and flows in a narrow valley. It forms a waterfall in its upper course and rapids in its lower course. It is fed primarily by rain. High water is from May through September. The mean flow rate 12 km from the mouth is 104 cu m per sec. Ice begins to form in October, and the river freezes over in November; the ice breaks up in May. The river is used for floating timber.
