Web: www.turquoisetrail.org Description:Linking Albuquerque and Sante Fe, byway offers glimpses into the diverse culture, history, and scenic beauty of central New Mexico through its towns, museums, and natural landscapes. It features the Cerrillos Turquoise Mining Museum and the Museum of Archaeology and Material Culture; the "ghost" mining towns of Golden, Madrid, and Cerrillos; Sandia Cave, and Sandia Crest and Sandia Peak Tramway. With the Cibola National Forest, Cibola Mountain Wilderness Area, and other canyons, forests, and natural areas, visitors can enjoy year-round adventure, from hiking to cross-country skiing.
Legth: 62 miles. Start/Endpoint: Byway runs from Tijeras north along NM 14 through Golden, Madrid, and Cerrillos to near the junction ofNM 14 and I-25, just south of Santa Fe. A side route runs from Sandia Park west on NM 536 past thejunction with NM 165 to Sandia Crest. Time to Allow: 2 hours including backtracking. Designation/Year: National Scenic Byway (2000).
