Turrialba
(to͞orēäl`bä), active volcano, 10,958 ft (3,340 m) high, E central Costa Rica. Its last major eruption was in 1866; it subsequently was inactive until 2010. On its lower slopes is the city of Turrialba. The volcano IrazúIrazú, active volcano, c.11,260 ft (3,430 m) high, central Costa Rica, E of San José. A massive volcano, Irazú erupted in 1723, destroying Cartago, and since then it has erupted at least 20 times.
