Taiho Code

Taiho Code

a Japanese feudal code of law (701) that consolidated the changes introduced by the Taika reform. The code determined and clarified the system of land allotment and taxation, the government structure, the rights and responsibilities of civil servants, and the relations between the privileged feudal aristocracy and the exploited peasantry. It also determined the legal status of various categories of state-owned and private slaves.
