Tai Hu

T’ai Hu

 

a lake in China. T’ai Hu is situated south of the Yangtze River and west of the Grand Canal, with which it is linked by a system of small rivers. It measures approximately 60 km in length and as much as 45 km in width. A freshwater lake, it reaches its highest water level during the summer rains and becomes shallow in the winter. The lake is navigable and is used for the irrigation of rice fields. It abounds in fish.
