Tessin, Nicodemus The Younger
Tessin, Nicodemus (The Younger)
Born May 23, 1654, in Nyköping; died Apr. 10, 1728, in Stockholm. Swedish architect.
Tessin, who studied under his father, Nicodemus Tessin the Elder, combined baroque splendor with numerous elements of 17th-century classicism (Palladianism in particular). He built palaces, including the Royal Palace in Stockholm (1697–1760), as well as palace and park ensembles and churches. In 1681, Tessin completed Drottningholm Palace near Stockholm, which had been begun by his father in 1662.
