Tushnov, Mikhail Pavlovich

Born Apr. 30 (May 12), 1879, in Kazan; died Sept. 19, 1935, in Moscow. Soviet microbiologist and pathophysiologist. Academician of the V. I. Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences (1935).

In 1902, Tushnov graduated from the Kazan Veterinary Institute, where he taught from 1905 to 1931. In 1932 he became head of the subdepartment of microbiology at the Moscow Zooveteri-nary Institute (now the Moscow Veterinary Academy). Tushnov was the founder of tissue therapy, developed several organother-apeutic preparations, and formulated the theoretical basis of the action of lysates (products of decomposition obtained during fermentative hydrolysis of tissues and organs) in certain diseases of farm animals.
