An industrial and shipping center in a coal region, it has food and dairy processing and industries that make aluminum products, tools, packaging, and wooden products. Nearby, in the Ohio River, is historic Blennerhassett IslandBlennerhassett Island,in the Ohio River, near Parkersburg, W.Va.
