Self-Excitation of Oscillations

Self-Excitation of Oscillations

the spontaneous (without external causes) occurrence of oscillations in an oscillatory system that is in an unstable state of equilibrium. Self-excitation results from the small initial deviations from the state of equilibrium that necessarily exist as a consequence of fluctuations. The oscillations that occur can intensify and can lead to the establishment of self-oscillations in the system, which are maintained by energy from a source of some kind.
