submucous resection

a surgical procedure to correct a deviated nasal septum, in which obstructing septal cartilage or bone is removed after elevation of the investing mucoperichondrial flaps on each side; ordinarily an L-shaped dorsal and caudal strut is preserved to maintain nasal support.
