释义 | Park, Maud WoodPark, Maud (May) Wood(1871–1955) suffrage leader; born in Boston, Mass. A graduate of Radcliffe College (1895), she founded the College Equal Suffrage League with Inez Haynes Gillmore Irwin (1901). After the death of her husband, Charles Edward Park, she secretly married Robert Hunter, a theatrical agent. She campaigned for the 19th Amendment, which gave women the vote in 1920. She was the first president of the League of Women Voters (1919–24) and headed the Women's Joint Congressional Committee. She traveled and lectured all her life. Her book Front Door Lobby (published 1960) tells of her Washington years. |
