Power Per Liter

Power Per Liter

the maximum effective power obtained from 1 liter (1 cu decimeter) of the working volume of the cylinders of an internal-combustion engine. The power per liter is one of the fundamental characteristics of the efficiency of engine design. The highest ratings, about 74 kilowatts (kW) per liter (100 hp per liter), are obtained from modified automobile and motorcycle engines. The ratings of engines in mass-produced passenger cars are 29–44 kW per liter; diesel engines in trucks have ratings of 12–18 kW per liter.
