Air-Pollution Measures

In accordance with health legislation, the public health and epidemiologic service monitors the quality of the atmosphere and the work of treatment facilities in order to prevent harmful substances from exceeding maximum permissible concentrations.

Most socialist countries apply the same air-pollution measures as does the USSR. In some capitalist countries, including Great Britain and the USA, industrial emissions and maximum permissible concentrations of some substances that are hazardous to human health are limited by law, although there is no single system of air-pollution measures.
