airport advisory area airport advisory areaThe area within 10 statute miles (6.25 km) of an airport where a control tower is not operating and where an FSS (flight service station) is located. At such locations, the FSS provides advisory service to arriving and departing aircraft. It is not mandatory that the pilots participate in the local airport advisory program, but it is strongly recommended to do so. |
