an artificial dental metal appliance made to conform to the shape of a bone and placed on its surface beneath the periosteum. See: implant denture substructure.

subperiosteal implant

A prosthesis for edentulous patients who cannot wear dentures (e.g., because of mandibular atrophy). The implant consists of a metal framework that rests on the residual ridge beneath the periosteum but does not penetrate the mandible. See also: implant
