Parsons, Betty

Parsons, Betty (b. Pierson)

(1900–82) art dealer, painter; born in New York City. She studied painting and sculpture privately, lived in France for many years, and then worked as a director for several galleries (1936–46). In 1946 she established the Betty Parsons Gallery in New York City and was an early promoter of the abstract expressionists. She also exhibited her own paintings and sculptures throughout the United States.
