Volchkov, Nikolai Nikolaevich

Born Feb. 23 (Mar. 8), 1910, in Moscow. Soviet Russian actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1974). Member of the CPSU since 1946.

From 1931 to 1935, Volchkov performed with the Theater-Studio directed by A. D. Dikii, and in 1937 he joined the Russian Drama Theater in Dushanbe. He has portrayed V. I. Lenin in several plays: Kapler’s The Stormy Year, Pogodin’s The Third Pathétique and The Kremlin Chimes, and Shatrov’s In the Name of the Revolution. His other roles have included Protasov in Gorky’s Children of the Sun, Miller in Schiller’s Love and Intrigue, Akim in L. N. Tolstoy’s The Power of Darkness, Luka in Gorky’s The Lower Depths, and Gordei in Lavrent’ev’s Honor Thy Father.

Volchkov has been awarded three orders and several medals.
