Volcker, Paul A.

(1927– ) economist; born in Cape May, N.J. After many years in government banking, he served as the highly influential chairman of the Federal Reserve Board (1979–87). He then became the Frederick H. Schultz Class of 1951 Professor of International Economics at Princeton University as well as a partner in the investment firm of James D. Wolfensohn, Inc.
