Big River State Forest
Location:Western Illinois, in Henderson County, 6 miles north of Oquawka on the Oquawka-Keithsburg blacktop.
Facilities:Tent and trailer campsites (primitive), equestrian campground, horserentals, picnic areas, shelters, 3 boat ramps, hiking trail, horsebackriding trails, snowmobile trails, scenic roadways.
Activities:Camping (including equestrian and group camping), boating, fishing, icefishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, snowmobiling.
Special Features:Forest is managed primarily to demonstrate sound forestry practices. Aprominent landmark in the forest is its fire tower. In addition, toseparate the forest into manageable components, 60 miles of firebreaksinterlace Big River State Forest. When fires aren't a threat, hikersand horseback riders use the firebreaks as trails.
