participatory action research

participatory action research

a form of ACTION RESEARCH. If the goals of traditional research have generally been restricted to trying to know, or understand aspects of society, participatory action research aims to change that which is studied. For this reason it is inherently political and involves researchers and researched working together to identify and resolve issues in a particular area. Thus, compared with more conventional research methods and approaches, participatory action research is more akin to PRAXIS in that assumes knowledge comes from interactive engagement with the world.
