Semen Mikulinskii

Mikulinskii, Semen Romanovich

 

Born Apr. 2, 1919, in Kremenchug. Soviet philosopher and historian of science; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968). Member of the CPSU since 1939.

Mikulinskii graduated from the department of philosophy of Leningrad State University in 1949. In 1952 he became a scientific worker at the Institute of the History of the Natural Sciences and Technology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR; he became the institute’s deputy director in 1963 and director in 1974. His main works are on the theory of evolution, general problems of biology and the history of philosophy in Russia in the first half of the 19th century, and philosophical problems of natural science. He is one of the initiators of the development of the science of science in the USSR.
