Semenov, Aleksei

 

Years of birth and death unknown. Leader of peasant actions that occurred in 1826 in the Ukraine in Uman’ District of Kiev Province.

As a soldier in the 2nd Battalion of the Dnieper Regiment, Semenov posed as the tsar’s aide-de-camp who had been dispatched for the purpose of liberating the peasants and distributing land to them. The action was suppressed by the troops, and 150 peasants were brought to trial. Semenov himself was sentenced to hard labor.
