释义 | Rose, WickliffeRose, Wickliffe(1862–1931) public health administrator; born in Saulsbury, Tenn. He taught at the Peabody College for Teachers and the University of Nashville before joining the Peabody Education Fund (1907–14). He directed the Rockefeller Sanitary Commission for the Eradication of Hookworm in the South (1910–23), a task made possible by his tact and diplomacy. As director of the International Health Board of the Rockefeller Foundation (1913–23), his responsibilities increased to include other preventable diseases and resulted in the establishment of schools of public health in 13 cities around the world. As director of the General Education Board and of the International Education Board, he promoted scientific teaching and research. |
