Tuzlukov, Boris

Born May 5 (18), 1909, in Kursk; died Oct. 3, 1974, in Moscow. Soviet stage designer. Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1955).

Tuzlukov studied in a painting and drawing studio in Kursk. In 1934 he became an artist and teacher at the Bauman Children’s Palace of Culture in Moscow, and from 1936 to 1970 he was principal designer at the Central Puppet Theater directed by S. V. Obraztsov.

The productions for children and adults designed and staged by Tuzlukov made a great contribution to the modern puppet theater. Tuzlukov’s best works were Vladychina’s Puss in Boots (1937), Gernet’s Aladdin’s Magic Lamp (1940) and Mowgli (1945), Kurdiumov’s II’ia Muromets (1951), Gozzi’s The Stag King (1943), Speranskii’s Beloved Beauty (1948), his own Mine, All Mine! (1958), Shtok’s The Divine Comedy (1961) and Noah’s Ark (1968), and Speranskii’s I-Ho-Ho! (1964).
