Ross, Sir George William

Ross, Sir George William,

1841–1914, Canadian political leader, b. Ontario. He sat (1872–83) in the House of Commons and then entered the Ontario government as minister of education. He was Liberal prime minister of Ontario from 1899 to 1905. In 1907 he was appointed to the Canadian Senate and in 1910, the year he was knighted, became Liberal leader in the Senate. He was a notable public speaker, and many of his addresses have been published.
