Rostotskii, Boleslav Norbert Iosifovich

 

Born Aug. 3 (16), 1912, in Moscow. Soviet theater historian and critic. Doctor of art studies (1967). Member of the CPSU since 1948.

Rostotskii graduated from the State Institute of Theatrical Arts (GITIS) in 1932. He began his literary career in 1931. In 1948 he became a senior researcher in the section for art in the European socialist countries of the Institute for the History of the Arts (Moscow), and in 1962, the head of the section. His chief works deal with the history of the Soviet and Polish theater. He began teaching at GITIS in 1944, becoming a professor there in 1967.
