Location:50 miles north of Eureka and 25 miles south of Crescent City on Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway off of Highway 101.

Special Features:One of California's most popular redwood parks, Prairie Creek featuresherds of Roosevelt elk and a network of trails, including accessibletrails for individuals with physical or visual limitations. Near thenorth end of Gold Bluffs Beach is Fern Canyon, a narrow canyon whosehigh, vertical walls are completely covered with ferns. Together,Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park,Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, and Redwood National Park (seeseparate entries) are managed cooperatively by the National ParkService and the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Theseparks make up 45 percent of all the old-growth redwood forest remainingin California.
