Activities:Guided tours or self-guided tours, including a one-mile Battlefield Trail or a five-mile driving tour.
Special Features:Park protects one of America's most intact Civil War battlefieldswhere, on December 7, 1862, the Confederate army clashed with Uniontroops. In one day of fierce fighting, casualties on both sidesnumbered about 2,700. Exhibits, tours, and other programs describe thebattle and its local effects. A battle reenactment takes placebiennially on even-numbered years the first week-end in December.
