Rashidov, Rashid Medzhidovich

Born May 1, 1928, in the village of Vanashi-Makhi, Sergokala Raion, Dagestan ASSR. Soviet Darghin poet. Member of the CPSU since 1961.

Rashidov graduated from the department of history of the Dagestan Pedagogical Institute in 1949. He began publishing in 1945. His collections of verse for children include My Happiness (1948), Chicks (1956), The Sun’s Fragrance (1963), When the Bees Fell Asleep (1968), and The Neighbors Are Laughing (1969; Russian translation, 1969; Suleiman Stal’skii State Prize of the Dagestan ASSR, 1970). He has also written several collections of verse for adults and has translated works by A. S. Pushkin, M. Iu. Lermontov, and M. Gorky. Rashidov’s works have been translated into several national languages of the USSR. He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and several medals.
