Sredniaia Akhtuba

an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Sredniaia Akhtuba Raion, Volgograd Oblast, RSFSR. Population, 10,800 (1974). Sredniaia Akhtuba is located on the left bank of the Akhtuba River (an arm of the Volga), 15 km from the Volzhskii railroad station (on the Volgograd-Astrakhan line). The settlement has a cannery, a brickworks, a plant for the production of large panels for housing construction, a ceramics factory, and a poultry farm.
